Farm & Production Animals
Appointments
We have limited our farm calls to large groups and medical emergencies in which the animal cannot be safely hauled. Our farm call availability is extremely limited, and it is important to have transportation pre-arranged to bring animals to the clinic for medical emergencies. Please call us for more details.
Small Ruminants and Swine Veterinary Services
Countryside Veterinary Service offers guidance and veterinary care for small ruminants. Our doctors will customize a program to meet the needs of your flock or herd and will assist in wellness and reproductive management. Wellness care prevents diseases and parasites and maximizes the growth and production rates of your animals. We can perform services at your farm or in the large animal facility at the Clinic. One of the biggest areas of concern for small ruminant patients is parasite control. De-worming your herd at the appropriate time is crucial. We may also recommend fecal exams for best results. Our veterinarians are also comfortable working with llamas and alpacas. They are familiar with ultrasound, surgery, and parasite management. Raising swine can be challenging, please allow us to direct you to a profitable swine management production program. This will vary on whether you are a commercial producer trying to maximize production, or a purebred show pig producer.
Bovine Veterinary Services
Countryside Veterinary Service offers comprehensive bovine services to customize the needs of the individual producer. Consult with our veterinarians for herd wellness care. This includes Vaccinations, nutritional needs, parasite management, and a reproductive program. Our facility is equipped with holding and sorting pens, and a chute for processing or for surgical procedures. This allows cattle to be worked in any weather condition. It is also quicker, safer, and causes less stress for owners and livestock. Aside from basic herd wellness and care, we offer bovine reproductive services with breeding soundness exams, artificial insemination, and reproductive ultrasounds.
Breeding Soundness Exam
One of the most valuable and often underutilized services available to producers is the bull breeding soundness exam (BSE). This exam allows us to assess a bull’s potential breeding fitness. The BSE is recommended to be performed well in advance of the breeding season. Bulls make up half of the breeding herd and should be managed as carefully as the cowherd to ensure a brief and productive calving season.
Bovine Artificial Insemination
Artificial insemination in a bovine herd allows for genetic improvement through the use of superior sires. Countryside Veterinary Service offers artificial insemination for bovine clients. Several synchronization methods are also available for your herd. If you are interested in a synchronization program for your herd, please contact one of our veterinarians.
Bovine Reproductive Ultrasounds
Pregnancy diagnosis by ultrasound advantages:
- Pregnancy can be detected as early as 30 days of gestation
- Twins can be more precisely diagnosed
- Detailed information about fetal health
